The region where Uluru lies – the southern part of the Northern Territory in central Australia – is a desert, where the average annual rainfall is about 300 mm, but even that is extremely variable. It is estimated that only 1% of visitors to Uluru get the chance to witness waterfalls flowing from the rock.
